Long bio (~250-400 words)
Andre Cronje is a software developer and systems architect working on open, verifiable financial infrastructure. Since late 2024, his primary focus has been Flying Tulip, which he founded as an on-chain financial system designed to standardize pricing, credit, settlement, and risk across trading, lending, derivatives, and related products. Flying Tulip launched in February 2026 and continues to roll out products in guarded stages. Alongside that founder-led work, Cronje serves as Chief Technology Officer at Witnessnet. Witnessnet builds zkTLS infrastructure for blockchain-authenticated, chain-agnostic HTTP requests. In 2020, Cronje created Yearn Finance, a community-led DeFi protocol suite that automated yield strategies across lending and trading platforms. Yearn's governance token, YFI, launched through a widely discussed fair-distribution model with no initial allocation to Cronje or the development team. That same year, he created Keep3r Network, a decentralized coordination protocol connecting job posters with independent keepers that execute tasks on-chain. At Fantom, Cronje originated the core technical architecture and, together with Quan Nguyen, led the development team that implemented the working network. He also co-authored technical research concerning Fantom and Lachesis. He later served as a director and as Chief Technology Officer of Sonic Labs, where he led the design and development of the Sonic network and Sonic Gateway. Cronje studied Law at Stellenbosch University and later completed computer science coursework at CTI Education Group. Prior to DeFi, he spent roughly a decade working in technical roles across sectors including telecoms and retail.
